MetaCarta was acquired by Nokia in April 2010. In July 2010 Nokia sold MetaCarta business to Qbase, but retained the engineering team.

I was doing my theoretical research at the Department of Computer Science of Brandeis University as a graduate student and received the PhD degree in February 2002.

Harry Mairson arranged financial support of my studies during several years.

The Web server of our department hosts my home page.

In 1990-1992 I worked under the supervision of Dr. Alex Rashin first at the Department of Physiology & Biophysics of Mount Sinai Medical Center, and then at Biosym Technologies, Inc. Later, I provided some consulting services for his company, BioChemCorp, Inc. This fruitful collaboration resulted in valuable scientific software and several publications.

In 1986-1989 I worked under the supervision of Dr. Boris Cherkassky at what is now known as National Economy Prediction Institute in the famous building hosting Central Economical Mathematical Institute and the Department of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In 1981-1986 I was a student of Moscow Institute of Railroad Engineers (MIIT) in a 5-year program in Applied Mathematics. The MIIT alumni data base maintained by Leonid Neishtadt is an extremely valuable resource for the MIIT community.

In 1981-1982 I have attended mathematical courses in so-called "Jewish People's University", which was run by several brave mathematicians to remedy the deficiencies of mathematical preparation for the students not admitted to Moscow State University due to their Jewish origins or other non-academic reasons. This unofficial University stopped functioning under the pressure from KGB in 1982.

In 1980-1981 and also in Summer 1979, I worked in Puschino Biological Research Center, Moscow Region, at various times at the Institute of Biophysics (now Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Biophysics), Research Computing Center (now Institute of Mathematical Problems in Biology), and Radioastronomical Station of the Astrocosmic Center of the Physics Institute of the Academy of Sciences.

In 1980 I've graduated from the Mathematical Class of Moscow High School #7 --- one of the oldest Moscow mathematical high schools, where I learned math from such great teachers as Irina Igorevna Yudina and Georgij Borisovich Shabat. The list of Moscow Math. Schools graduates temporary or permanently residing abroad was maintained by Shurik Kirillov.
